Hugh and God

OK. So for a while I’ve been trying to see the joke in some of Hugh’s latest posts and thinking, that hey, it must be me… I don’t get it. But no, they really are christian posts and to be honest I’m pissed off that Hugh feels it’s OK to share his beliefs in a blog which at the end of the day is all about marketing.

Personally, I find myself less and less tolerant of religion, of people wanting to share their beliefs with me. For years I would have considered myself the most tolerant and respectful of other peoples’ faith but lately I’ve changed. I’ve changed because in general people with faith are not respectful to my atheism… even calling it a lack of faith… pisses me off… it’s not a lack thing …

Well anyway… I’m fed up that Hugh has chosen to express his beliefs… I used to like Gaping Void, like really like it… sigh!

So, you’re fed up with Hugh posting about his beliefs on a marketing blog, so you post about your beliefs on a usability, design and information architecture blog.

Of course I do… but calling thm “beliefs” is pushing it a bit.

Of course Hugh is free to post whatever he likes. And likewise I’m also free to consider him “a bit of christian nut” and in a lazy way, disregard lots of what he says from now on… suspecting some evangelizing agenda… Or to put it another more honest way… Whilst I understand how people have different beliefs from mine… if someone admitted to believing in THE GOD OF THUNDER… I’d filter all they said from then on as “probably a bit nutty”… and for me at least… christians aren’t that far away from that. My opinion…

In usability terms I’m quite old-skool… usability, having grown out of cog-sci stuff, is founded on lots of tested research and evidence. But yes, I take your point…lots of usability takes a leap of faith of sorts.. one which in this case is a leap woth making.

[...] Some people are getting irritated by the occasional religious postings on Hugh MacLeod’s gapingvoid blog. Others feel the exact opposite. I don’t care either way, it’s Hugh’s blog, so he can do what he wants. [...]

Well I agree, almost. I’m just disappointed that once was an extremely rich source of genius in now something that I have to take care picking through.
