Seth’s Purple Albatross
May 10th, 2006

Michael questions Seth’s Squiddo but I’m not so sure Squidoo is a dodo yet. It’s true I don’t have much use for it yet, but if it can hang around long enough, now that in the back of my mind I know it’s there, I will come across people who could use it.
Squidoo is very similar to something made in pre-dot.com days, I think called eTours, where you collected together a sequence of sites and people sat back and were “introduced” to whatever you’d chosen. There will always be a job of introducing newcomers and many blogs, whilst servicing the needs of current readers, those readers have grown up along with the blog and now, to a newcomers those blogs or wikis are just too developed.
eTours, although useful and good fun didn’t have the legs to stick around long enough to make any money but that was back in the days when there were only 20 people on the internet at one time… things have changed a bit.
As for Seth losing his credibility, I’d like Seth to get involved in more attempts to purple cow things up to hilt because failure doesn’t actually undermine the principle, it just points to a lack of purpleness.
Seth Godin should go back to doing what he does best, marketing Seth Godin.
ha… quite…
