Tony ... I couldn't agree more... I have been banging on about how programming should be democratised for years under the "programming for the rest of us" banner with HyperCard and AppleTalk.

I also used to be a huge advocate of visual programming with Prograph CPX - which was like Yahoo Pipes with elegance (classes, inheritance etc)

I don't really have any pipes to publish... I did one that showed BNP scum (from that leaked membership list) on a map of York... I did a simple aggregator... I have followed some of your online tutorials....

The hardest part of Yahoo Pipes for me, something that you excel at, is conceiving of the problem in a Pipe-friendly way... which is harder than it sounds.

...or http://lemur.ecs.soton.ac.uk/~cjg/Graphite/eprints.php#coloc is pretty punchy in terms of what you can do with very little code.

There was some linked data stuff on the first day but it was oversubscribed so I could not squeeze into the room!

I've been working on some ideas to make it more accessible. Check out http://lemur.ecs.soton.ac.uk/~cjg/Graphite/ -- specifically the linked data example at the end.

I also want to do some really simple visual explanations of linked data without requiring people to think very abstractly...

Hi Tom...

Not being picky or anything, but I'm all in favour of programing, and think more people should be provided with accessible tools that let them do it.

It's *coding*, i.e. having to do programming with text based code/trad programming languages, that I think is a barrier to entry for many people (partly because there are so many things that can go wrong when writing code, and it's hard for a novice to know whether they've made a typo, got a missing dependency, made a syntax error, got confused about how state is being managed, got confused about representations or types, or just messed up their algorithm etc ;-)

PS so are you gonna post any of your pipework?! :-)
