Daft idea of the day… a clock

May 22nd, 2007 Published in Fun

I thought I’d take a little time off to have some fun yesterday. It’s harder than you think this fun thing. I ran my first fun idea past Jonathan who said it was a bit sick so it back to the drawing board.
So I made a clock that was based on the idea “if time were money…” and yes, that is the BLINK I used…. I’m so 1994… anyway…
The time, according to Burning a Hole, is …

Google winning the Oooo war against Yahoo and Microsoft…

Microsoft vs Yahoo Vs Google
…over how many O’s you need to put in their domain name before it becomes available. Microsoft only two!… they just aren’t trying hard enough are they?
Thinking of domain names is difficult, but has a brand, how do you differentiate yourself as the “google with 32 O’s” from the “google with 41 big fat O’s”?

What to do in York on Friday, 30th March 2007

March 17th, 2007 Published in Fun

rory motionLast night I went to see shamanic bard  Rory Motion at the Winning Post on Bishopthorpe Road… great fun. I managed to get a few clips on my phone which are suprisingly small and blurry… but you get the jist…

  • A song about Freedom, I missed the much talked about documentary on BBC2 last Sunday, this will have to do instead…

He’s on again in a few weeks with his band, The Travelling Libraries… put it in your diaries. There’s a great curry house closer to town called Lal Quila (I had a duck thing) and pub opposite-ish that that serves lovely beers, unlike the Winning Post which only has John Smiths…mmm food, beer, laughter, music …

How does a PR department deal with this, and how can management of a low-end Supermarket that pays low wages to teenagers for menial jobs prevent it happening again? It’s a tough one, with potential echoes in a lot of companies that depend on undervalued casual labour.

For my part, having worked briefly in a Supermarket as a spotty teenager, I can confirm that all you need for late night bowling action is a long aisle, a stack of cans and some good, round Watermelons. If only we had mobile phones with video cameras and YouTube in those days!

Go watch the Extreme pallet lifters or Ladder Jump or The Somerfield Gap (videos)

…ha…. exactly….

Rory Motion | my life as an artist

January 22nd, 2007 Published in Blogging, Fun

A very long while ago, Jonathan went on a course where he encountered performance poet Rory Motion, and very kindly bought one his books (Neither is the Horse) and gave it to me. I loved it and when, back in York got in touch with Rory to talk about poetry, football, the universe and chutney etc.
I introduced Rory Motion to blogging which from the banks of the River Ouse is no mean feat. Latterly, he’s been painting more than writing… go buy one now.

Green-glowing pigs

January 5th, 2007 Published in Fun

The BBC report that they’ve made pigs that glow in the dark and you know me, I’m a sucker for any kind of lighting, especially glow in the dark stuff. Imagine, instead of some ambient bedside lamp you could have a cute piglet instead.

Sam points to Cybergrot, which has to be based on Reggie Perrins original idea. Mad then… mad now… strangely compelling though.

Mummifed Mouse!
Dead Mouse. Q. Is this the only dead mouse for sale on the internet? A. Certainly not – we are selling two! This one is recently deceased,…

Seeing again…

I love this. Some designers chose to take a fresh look at the “almost invisible” barcode and have some fun with it.

What are you looking at/using every day without seeing it? Who knows there might even be a Long Tail opportunity in there for you?

I often wondered what became of
Nigel Burch
, who now has a Flea-Pit Orchestra apparently.

I went to Art school with him… he always carried a uke. The last time I saw him he was busking at Bank… it’s bloody brilliant to see he is still alive and gigging…

Winner in the categories of “Not quite getting it” and “Late to the party” (honorable mention in the “We don’t have a single idea in our heads” section) is 10pennypixel.

This is a joke isn’t it?
