Additions:
When designing related links sections of the site, if the customer is a ReturningCustomer then ask yourself whether you should be presenting with items they have bought already? Sometimes it is appropriate and others it isn't. For example if you are running a bookshop and know that the customer has bought a particular book, it is unlikely they will want to buy that book again. So why not show them "similar" books. This of course presumes that the ReturningCustomer can easily find items they have previously bought.
When displaying small collections of links (often at the right-hand side) such as "Popular Items", "Recently Bought" and maybe "Newest Items" do they all "know" what each other contains, for example, if an item were to appear in all 3 sections it would be a terrible waste of TriggerWord opportunity.
So when designing your site make sure that the page really knows what each section is listing, with relevance to the customer.
Deletions:
Should we be promoting stuff the user already has purchased? Could promotions take out those things?
