Best Bets is a termed coined by a developer at the BBC ( http://www.currybet.net/articles/day_in_the_life/index.php∞) . It means that given people will be using your SiteSearchEngine, what factors can you bet on that people want. For example,

• What is your most popular product?
• What times of day might most customers want something in particular?
• What items are you promoting
• What common misspellings occur most
• Given a visitor is searching from a particular section of the site, what is it most likely they "should" want to see.

The beeb decided to give over the top 2 or 3 search results to hand-picked "Best Bets".
