According to JaredSpool and PacoUnderhill, half of all online purchase are impulse buys. People simply buy things they didn't set out to buy.

The idea of IntelligentUpselling is based on AddingValueToData. If you can take your best selling products and identify which other products would compliment those you will sell more items. If you don't stock those complimentary items, buy some in and experiment. For example, when someone is buying an expensive Juicer as a present, why wouldn't they pay slightly over the odds to add a book of smoothie recipes?
